About Riverside
Riverside Virtual College has been created to ensure young people with SEND or SEMH still have access to a good quality education. The numbers of young people who are currently at home, not having an education are rising due to a number of reasons including anxiety or poor heath.
Riverside virtual college will allow young people to progress and build on their personal development. Which will then allow them to access mainstream opportunities in the future.
Abide Zenenga
Co-Founder
Dr Abide Zenenga has a son born with Down Syndrome and Autism. He has always advocated for access to education for all and when the idea of an online school was put forward, he supported it with the blessing of his business partner and friend Mr Tony Copeland.
RVC is our new and exciting addition to the Riverside educational group.
Leanne Burke
Head of College
Leanne is an experienced/qualified (QTLS) teacher with a strong passion for supporting students with SEN. She previously worked as the SEN Lead across all Riverside Education sites. Which is where her work with parents, students and local authorities highlighted a growing need for a flexible online educational provision. Through these conversations, Leanne recognised that some students were struggling to access traditional educational settings due to anxiety, poor health or other individual barriers to attendance. This led her to discuss the idea of an online school with Abide and Tony that could provide these students with a supportive, accessible and inclusive alternative, ensuring they could continue their education in a way that met their individual needs.
Clare Johnson
College Deputy
Clare has years of experience as the lead of Behaviour and Attitudes across all Riverside education sites. She is extremely passionate about pastoral support and student wellbeing, particularly for SEND students. Clare’s role in leading behaviour and attitudes has enabled her to develop a strong understanding of our students, identify changes in behaviour and recognise underlying wellbeing needs, allowing her to provide early support, build positive relationships and ensure that every student feels valued, understood and able to reach their full potential.
